Ford Transmissions

4R100, 5R110W, 6R140 & 10R140

Ford 4R100 — 4 Speed Automatic, 1999-2003, in 7.3L Power Stroke
Ford 5R110W — 5 Speed Automatic, 2003-2010, in 6.0L & 6.4L Power Stroke
Ford 6R140 — 6 Speed Automatic, 2011-2019, in 6.7L Power Stroke
Ford 10R140 — 10 Speed Automatic, 2020-current, in 6.7L Power Stroke

Ford’s E4OD automatic transmission was paired with the Power Stroke diesel engine through the model year 1998.

The E4OD included a higher contact ratio in planetary gear sets, an improved hydraulic pump, and an upgraded coast clutch. The E4OD featured the addition of an overdrive gearset, greatly improving fuel efficiency over the direct drive top gear of the C6. With the E4OD, Ford introduced electronic shift controls, replacing hydraulic pressure regulation and shift functions with electric shift solenoids.

Ford’s 4R100 automatic transmission replaced the E4OD transmission for the 1999 model year Ford Super Duty, and was mated to the 7.3L Power Stroke diesel through the 2003 model year of trucks. The 4R100 transmission was phased out with the 7.3L Power Stroke diesel engine. In their place, the 6.0L Power Stroke and 5R110W TorqShift were introduced as replacements.

Ford’s 5R110W TorqShift transmission was introduced alongside the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel for the 2003 model year. The TorqShift is a diesel specific transmission as it is more closely integrated into the function of the diesel engine. Production of the 5R110W continued with the introduction of the 6.4L Power Stroke for the 2008 model year. In their place, the 2011 6.7L Power Stroke and the advanced 6R140 TorqShift transmission were introduced as replacements.

Ford’s 6R140 TorqShift, commonly referred to as the TorqShift 6, was introduced alongside the 6.7L Power Stroke Turbodiesel for the 2011 model year. This popular transmission remains in production today.

Ford’s 10R140 TorqShift is a 10 speed automatic transmission which was developed for the Ford Super Duty platform (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600) for the 2020 model year.

GM Transmissions

Allison 1000 Transmissions

For heavy duty pickup trucks, Allison designed and manufactured the respected 1000 transmission, equipped with a gearbox known for reliability. Allison has a reputation of forward-thinking with innovative improvements in their generation rollouts.

Early on, the Allison five-speed 1000 transmission was paired with GM’s Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 Diesel engine. Engine output provided 520 lb-ft of torque, more than enough for the Allison transmission which is rated for up to 620 lb-ft of torque. Later versions of the Allison 1000 gearbox can handle up to 910 lb-ft of torque. In 2006, Allison introduced a double overdrive configuration that included a sixth gear for improved fuel efficiency and a smoother highway drive.

The Allison 1000 transmission is the transmission used in GMC and Chevrolet medium and heavy duty pickup trucks. A popular combination is the Allison 10L1000 transmission with the Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 turbo diesel in the Chevrolet 2500HD and 3500HD trucks.

Allison ReTran®

Factory Spec Allison Remanufactured Transmissions

Save money, but don’t short yourself on quality.

Allison Transmission manufactures their previously used transmissions from the ground up at the Allison Transmission remanufacturing facility. In their process of screening to determine the quality of their used transmission parts before possible reuse, they disassemble the transmissions part-by-part to clean, test and grade each component to determine if it is sound for reuse.

When a used part fails Allison’s meticulous quality screening process, they outfit the ReTran® with genuine, new and exclusive Allison parts. Allison Transmission guarantees that every part and every process associated with an Allison ReTran® is 100% authentic. Only Allison ReTran® remanufactured transmissions undergo their proprietary dynamometer testing to ensure they exactly meet the original factory specs.

The fact that the quality of each used component included in the reman transmission is tested to meet new transmission specs means you get a more reliable and dependable remanufactured transmission. It’s the Allison promise you get with your authentic Allison ReTran®.

Drivetrain Component Repair & Service

While your truck is in the shop, Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service can also check and service or repair the other major components of your drivetrain including hubs, clutch, flywheel, driveline, u-joints (universal joints), differential, axles and wheel seals.

Drivetrain repair and service options available to customers range from minimal repair or upgrade to full system replacement including fluid levels check, replacement of worn drivetrain components, partial rebuilds, complete rebuild, complete transmission overhaul and complete clutch repair to complete differential repair.
