5. DIESEL TRUCK EMISSIONS COMPONENTS REPAIR

Modern diesel engines operate with exhaust emissions aftertreatment systems which remove nearly all particulate matter from the exhaust flow. Keeping your diesel truck engine’s emissions system optimally operating is important, for the environment, for fuel efficiency, and for the power output of your diesel truck. The four main components of the exhaust emissions aftertreatment system are the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst.

We can check the emissions components in your diesel truck’s emissions aftertreatment system, clean them, maintenance them, repair them, or replace them as needed. Continual, and periodic, maintenance service according to the truck or component manufacturer’s recommendations is advised to ensure your components last and operate properly during their lifespan.

SCHEDULE EMISSIONS COMPONENT REPAIR

6. DIESEL TRUCK EMISSIONS AFTERTREATMENT SERVICE & REPAIR

There are four core components to Ford’s Power Stroke, GM’s Duramax, and RAM’s Cummins diesel engine aftertreatment systems; namely the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), and the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). The diesel engines in Ford, GMC, Chevrolet, and RAM pickups, all utilize these four components.

EGR (EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION)

The ERG is an emission control technology that reduces NOx emissions from diesel engines.

The EGR lowers the cylinder temperatures during the combustion process and thereby lowers the amount of NOx created. The EGR removes a portion of the oxygen and replaces it with inert gases which lower the cylinder temperatures. An EGR cooler lowers exhaust temperature before it flows back into the intake manifold.

DIESEL OXIDATION CATALYST (DOC)

The purpose in the design of the DOC is the conversion of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water. The DOC breaks down the diesel engine’s exhaust pollutants in the exhaust system, thereby reducing particulate matter.

The exhaust passes through the DOC with minimal restriction. As a method of preparing the exhaust for treatment in the Diesel Particulate Filter, the aftertreatment system executes a hydrocarbon dosing system where fuel is dosed at a specific temperature. The fuel is thereby converted into a vapor and the vapor initiates a chemical reaction which produces heat. The truck’s control module regulates this heat, maintaining it at a certain temperature that is optimal for the DPF.

DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER (DPF)

The DPF is an exhaust device that traps particulate matter, commonly known as soot or ash.

Different from the flow-through design of the DOC, the DPF’s design is that of a wall-flow. The exhaust flows into, rather than through, the DPF where it is collected on the walls of the filter in the form of soot, and eventually as ash. The two purposes of the DPF are to catch soot and store ash.

SELECTIVE CATALYST REDUCTION (SCR)

The SCR is the emissions control system that injects Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a liquid reducing agent, through a special catalyst into the exhaust stream of the diesel engine.

The SCR further reduces NOx, and it is capable of reducing NOx at the tailpipe outlet to nearly zero NOx emissions. The SCR is a flow-through technology a lot like the DOC. The SCR injects diesel exhaust fluid which is 67.5% water and 32.5% urea. The water will evaporate, and when it does the remaining urea converts to ammonia and the ammonia reacts with the NOx, converting it into nitrogen and water.

Regularly Scheduled Maintenance Is Vital To Optimal Aftertreatment System Performance

These four core components which, comprise the diesel engine aftertreatment system, work in tandem to substantially reduce NOx emissions.

A common mistake which diesel pickup owners make is failing to service the aftertreatment system as regularly as it needs it. DPFs require regular cleaning, and the rest of the system requires regular inspections. Upstream leaks in the system can often times be the cause of downstream failures. The technicians at Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service can diagnose your diesel truck’s aftertreatment problems and perform the correct repair by looking at all four of the core components which make up the aftertreatment system, rather than potentially missing the full scope of the system’s status by assuming, at the outset, that the fault is with just one of the components.

7. DIESEL TRUCK INTAKE SERVICE & REPAIR

An efficiently operating diesel air intake system is of vital importance to the optimal performance and longevity of your pickup’s diesel engine. With regular air intake maintenance and checkups, you can keep your diesel engine running at its maximum power potential and thereby avoid sluggish accelerations and reduced power efficiency. A peak functioning air intake system will ensure sufficient air flow and the proper air-fuel mixture, which will keep your truck from running rich and consuming more fuel than is necessary. A poor functioning air intake system can increase engine wear and damage if the air filtration is not kept up to specs. We inspect, service, repair, and maintain air intake systems, and we look forward to servicing your diesel truck’s air intake system.

SCHEDULE DIESEL INTAKE REPAIR

8. DIESEL TRUCK EXHAUST SERVICE & REPAIR

An efficiently operating diesel air exhaust system can ensure efficient fuel economy, maximum power output, and overall truck performance. We will check all components in your diesel exhaust system, from manifold to muffler, providing the maintenance necessary to ensure your truck is on the road. We can inspect, service, repair and maintain your air exhaust system, including the muffler, back pressure, and the diesel exhaust aftertreatment system, including Regeneration, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst.

9. DIESEL TRUCK FUEL SYSTEM REPAIR

We offer expert diesel injection services. Call to inquire about diesel fuel injection system diagnostics and assessments for your truck’s fuel injectors.

The goal of our diesel fuel injector repair and service is to restore, or maintain, your diesel engine’s power output according to manufacturer specifications in order to maintain or improve both fuel economy and emissions reduction. We will remove, inspect, and clean the injectors; or repair, rebuild, or replace them, whichever is appropriate. We will also service the common rail if tests reveal doing so will be a benefit to your engine’s efficiency.

You could consider a fuel lift pump upgrade by going with an AirDog or a FASS diesel fuel lift pump, fuel air separation system. These aftermarket lift pumps can benefit the Ford Power Stroke, the GM Duramax, and the RAM Cummins diesel engines. When pulling fuel under vacuum, the standard fuel lift pumps that are installed on new diesel pickups can stress the injection pump and increase the risk of additional air being introduced into the fuel. An inadequate fuel supply in the line and in the lift pump, which can cause injection pump failure. A failed injection pump can damage the high pressure fuel system, including the injectors. The AirDog and the FASS fuel lift pumps eliminate air from the supply system, they remove water from the fuel, they precondition the fuel to finer microns, and they pressurize the supply system for a clean, adequate, and consistent supply of fuel to the injection pump.

SCHEDULE DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM REPAIR

10. DIESEL TRUCK INJECTOR EFFICIENCY SERVICE

The goal and aim of our diesel fuel injector efficiency service for Ford Power Stroke, Chevy and GMC Duramax, and RAM Cummins diesel truck engines, are to maintain and/or to restore the fuel injection system to its manufacturer specified standards in order to equip the injection system with the capability of operating in sync with the truck’s full complement of powertrain and electronic components to give the truck the possibility of maintaining the emissions reduction efficiency and the fuel efficiency that the manufacturer’s original engineering design intended it be endowed with.

Our diesel fuel injection efficiency service and repair is designed to improve the diesel engine’s potential to maintain proficient emissions reduction and fuel economy. Other systems do contribute to a diesel engine’s final ability to operate with optimal emissions reduction and fuel efficiency, and Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service can address those systems as well.

We also service the common rail when doing so can enhance the fuel injection system’s potential of maintaining or restoring the emissions reduction and/or fuel efficiency of the truck’s diesel engine.

SCHEDULE FUEL INJECTOR EFFICIENCY SERVICE

11. DIESEL TRUCK INJECTOR REBUILDS

With our diesel injector rebuilds, as is the case with all of our diesel fuel injection services, our goal is to rebuild the injectors so as to restore, or maintain, your diesel engine’s power output according to manufacturer specifications in order to maintain or improve both fuel economy and emissions reduction. With our injector rebuild service, we will remove, inspect, and clean your current/old injectors and rebuild the old injectors when they are too far out of tolerances or specifications.

Our rebuilt injectors pass an independent testing of the levels of internal timing and the injector fuel delivery of through-flow volume at RPM loads, thereby ensuring they pass manufacturer specification standards. We also service the common rail when doing so can enhance the fuel injection system’s potential of maintaining or restoring the emissions reduction and/or fuel efficiency of the truck’s diesel engine. Rebuilt fuel injectors may be the answer when your diesel truck is getting poor fuel mileage if the injectors have degraded far enough that a cleaning and repair will not return them to injector specifications.

SCHEDULE DIESEL INJECTOR REBUILD

12. DIESEL TRUCK INJECTION SYSTEM REPAIR

SCHEDULE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPAIR

15. REPLACE AND REPAIR DIESEL TRUCK STARTERS & PUMPS

We replace and repair diesel engine starters, water pumps, fuel injection pumps, and fuel lift pumps. Our technicians can run diagnostics tests to drill down past visual and audible symptoms, looking at the data your diesel pickup’s computer system reveals to determine if a starter, water pump, injection pump, or fuel lift pump needs to be further assessed with further troubleshooting or removal for inspection.

If your Cummins diesel engine is surging at idle, it may be there are injector pump suction leaks which are drawing air into the fuel system, the fuel supply could be constricted in either the fuel lift pump or the injector pump, or the injection pump could be worn or malfunctioning.

If it is determined your fuel lift pump needs to be replaced, you may want to consider a fuel lift pump upgrade with either the AirDog or the FASS diesel fuel lift pump. These aftermarket lift pumps can benefit the Ford Power Stroke, the GM Duramax, and the RAM Cummins diesel engines because they are designed to separate air from the fuel as they pump the fuel. When pulling fuel under vacuum, the standard replacement fuel lift pumps that are installed on diesel pickups can stress the injection pump and increase the risk of additional air being introduced into the fuel. An inadequate fuel supply in the line and in the lift pump can cause injection pump failure which can lead to further damage to the high pressure fuel system, including the injectors. The AirDog and the FASS fuel lift pumps eliminate air from the supply system, they remove water from the fuel, they precondition the fuel to finer microns, and they pressurize the supply system for a clean, adequate, and consistent supply of fuel to the injection pump.

Where Wrench Meets The Truck — We Deliver

Diesel Truck Mechanic

Keeping your light, medium or heavy duty diesel pickup operating at optimal levels is in your best interest. Trucks with diesel engines that get the proper care and scheduled maintenance are more capable of operating in extreme temperatures while performing under pressure, safely and reliably, at peak fuel efficiency.

Whether you drive a Chevy or GMC Duramax, a Dodge Cummins, or a Ford Power Stroke, our skilled and experienced diesel engine technicians can assist you.

Emissions & Engine Efficiency – Maintain engine performance and fuel efficiency by scheduling the regular maintenance of air filters and intake systems. Periodic and recommended filter inspections are key for these systems which are essential in keeping your diesel engine performing efficiently.

Oil Changes – When diesel truck owners skip oil changes, engine problems or failure can occur. We offer affordable diesel engine inspections and diesel engine services to keep your motor running.

Suspension Repairs – Our diesel suspension service ensures your diesel engine truck rides comfortably, even in the harshest of driving conditions. If your ride bites you in the tail, our strut & shock inspections with repair service enables you to drive with confidence, knowing your truck is ready to handle the road ahead.

Because diesel engines make a considerable amount of noise during regular operation, identifying issues and potential problems can be difficult. The experience and systems knowledge of our diesel engine experts ensures that your truck will get the required repairs. In addition, our routine diesel engine maintenance services can prevent many diesel engine issues from occurring in the first place.

Diesel Fuel Injection

Diesel engines can output tremendous power and torque for their respective sizes. Typically, diesel engines are more efficient at cleanly burning fuel than gasoline engines. Proper and regular maintenance of fuel injectors and fuel injection systems can keep diesel engines performing efficiently and cleanly while keeping your truck on the road for the long haul.

Fuel Injection Cleaning – Regular diesel fuel injection cleaning is essential to keep diesel engines running at their peak potential. Our diesel fuel injection service can remove particles and clean the injectors for efficient performance.

Diesel Engine Diagnostics – We perform evidence-based diagnostics to pinpoint the source of a diesel engine problem, inefficiency, or other issue, and repair it correctly.

Transmission Services – All automatic and manual transmission trucks need to be responsive to operate on the road safely. Our diesel mechanics can perform diesel transmission repair and replacement to keep your diesel truck running as efficiently as possible.

When diesel fuel injection problems occur, if your transmission feels like it is slipping, or your check engine light illuminates on the dashboard, you shouldn’t delay getting a professional opinion. At Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service, you can rely on our helpful, friendly, and skilled diesel truck repair technicians for your diesel truck needs.
